Louis Vuitton's Official Virgil Abloh Send-Off Collection Featuring FAMU & Kendrick Lamar

On Thursday Louis Vuitton rolled out a yellow-brick runway designed in the fashion of a toy race-car track for their Spring/Summer 2023 Men's Collection.

On Thursday, Louis Vuitton live streamed their first post-Virgil Men's Collection designed entirely by the design studio - some of whom were creators before Abloh and some who were hired under him. The show took place at the elegant Cour Carree du Louvre in Paris, and had about 1000 attendees wrapped around the runway.

The collection was a pastel wonderland which featured robes, trench coats, jackets and pants suits. All of which were made of quite heavy material such as denim and knit materials. However, the eclectic designs and seemingly vibrant color palette brought a playful vibe to the collection.

The collection was an ode to the late designer Virgil Abloh. Many pieces featured some of his most prized childhood memories like paper airplanes. Towards the end of the show, the talent walking in the show can be seen holding a pastel rainbow flag - a direct ode to Abloh's first Louis Vuitton show. It seemed to be the house's way of coming full circle to complete Abloh's journey.

Tribute to Virgil Abloh

The most noteworthy take away from this show was the live music. The FAMU Marching 100 - a HBCU marching band based out of Tallahassee, Florida - opened and closed the show. To top that off, Kendrick Lamar was seen front row performing live - for the first time ever - his latest album "Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers". The show was fresh, lively, and exciting. And, in the spirit of Virgil Abloh, it continued to give the Black community access to opportunities that was never available to them.
